Mango Festival in DDS KVK Leadership

Under the leadership of the DDS KVK, the Mango Festival was held with great enthusiasm on May 26 and was a grand success, attracting large number of visitors from all over the region and especially Hyderabad including local dignitaries and agricultural experts. The festival aimed at showcasing the diversity and richness of mangoes cultivated by local farmers. It showcased 28 varieties of mangoes including rare and indigenous types, Pachadi kayalu, Malgoba, Safeda, Lalbagh, Vanraj, Shahjahan, Amrapali, Alphonso, etc. Attendees had the opportunity to taste and purchase different varieties of mangoes. Women farmers have brought many unique varieties to the festival, which was well-received by all. The event also included various mango-based dishes and drinks prepared for the attendees.
Dr. C. Vara Prasad, Senior Scientist & Head, DDS KVK, recalled the mango cultivation history at the time of Nizam rule in the region and urged value addition to be practiced. He praised the efforts of the local women farmers for their cultivation and encouraged their participation in such events. Mrs. G. Shailaja, SMS (Horticulture), spoke about the scientific cultivation practices of mango orchids and answered some discussion points. Mrs. Chandramma, DDS Senior Seed Keeper, narrated her mango cultivation story and emphasized the importance of women's empowerment in agriculture.
Educational sessions were conducted to inform the public about the health benefits and economic importance of mangoes. The event provided a platform for women farmers to showcase their produce, share knowledge, and network with other farmers and potential buyers. Attendees also emphasized the importance of supporting local farmers and promoting indigenous varieties of fruits, requesting to organize more of such events
