Bio-input Resource Center at DDS KVK

The Bio-input Resource Center at DDS KVK is at the forefront of promoting sustainable and eco-friendly farming practices by building the capacity of farmers and catering to the bio-input needs of the region. Through the center, farmers are introduced to a variety of organic inputs that enhance soil fertility, improve crop health, and reduce dependency on chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

Some of the key bio-inputs promoted by DDS KVK include:

  • Ghana Jeevamrutham: A solid form of the Jeevamrutham bio-fertilizer that enriches soil microorganisms.

  • Vermiwash: A liquid fertilizer extracted from vermicomposting, rich in nutrients and beneficial microorganisms.

  • Jeevamrutha: A liquid bio-fertilizer that improves soil fertility and stimulates microbial activity.

  • Neemastram, Agnastram, Brahmastram: Organic pest repellents made from natural ingredients to control various crop pests.

  • Dashparni Kashayam: A potent herbal concoction used to protect crops from insects and diseases.

  • Panchagavya: A traditional growth enhancer made from cow by-products, used to stimulate plant growth and boost immunity.

  • Sour Buttermilk: Used as a foliar spray for disease management.

  • Waste Decomposer: A microbial solution for quick decomposition of organic waste into nutrient-rich compost.

  • Beejamrutham: A seed treatment solution that helps protect seeds from soil-borne diseases and pests.

Empowering Farmers Through Knowledge

Through training programs, demonstrations, and hands-on workshops, the Bio-input Resource Center empowers farmers to adopt these organic solutions. This initiative not only improves crop yields and profitability but also contributes to long-term soil health and environmental sustainability..

Bio-Resource Input Centre (Microbial Production Unit)

DDS Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) has established a Bio-Resource Input Centre for on-farm microbial production with the objective of promoting sustainability and supporting organic and natural farming systems.

The initiative aims to enable farmers to produce fresh, ready-to-use microbial inputs at the farm level, ensuring effectiveness, quality, and cost reduction. Keeping these objectives in view, a small-scale demonstration unit for microbial production has been established at the KVK. The unit is designed to address major crop protection and nutrient management issues prevalent in the district through the production of key bio-inputs, namely:

  • NPK Consortium - to enhance plant growth, nutrient uptake, and overall plant immunity

  • Trichoderma spp.- for the management of soil-borne diseases, particularly Fusarium wilt

  • Beauveria bassiana - for the control of sucking pests

  • Mycorrhiza - to manage root grub and larval stages in various crops

The Bio-Resource Input Centre is presently under trial run. The microbial products will be subjected to laboratory analysis to assess quality parameters, after which the shelf life of each product will be finalized. Based on the performance and validation results, the unit will be replicated in interested farmers’ fields for wider adoption and field-level impact."

Botanical Plant Demo Unit for Pest Management

DDS Krishi Vigyan Kendra has established a Demonstration Unit of Botanical Plants to promote eco-friendly pest management practices in different crops and to create awareness among farmers on the use of plant-based extracts as alternatives to chemical pesticides. The unit showcases important botanical plants such as Neem (Vepa), Pongamia (Karanj), Calotropis (Jilledu), Vitex negundo (Vavilaku), Annona (Sitaphal), Marigold (Banthi), Rose (Gulabi), Gliricidia (Eruvaku), Papaya (Bappai), and Bougainvillea (Paper Puvvulu). These plants are rich in alkaloids, terpenoids, and other bioactive metabolites that exhibit insecticidal, antifeedant, and repellent properties against crop pests. This consolidated demonstration enables farmers to identify, learn, and adopt botanical pest management techniques, supporting organic, natural, and sustainable farming systems."
