Demonstrations Units
DDS KVK Collaboration through Demonstration Units
DDS Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Zaheerabad implements its demonstration units through a participatory and collaborative approach, working closely with small and marginal farmers, women farmer groups, community institutions, line departments, NGOs, rural youth, and students. These units function as shared learning platforms, enabling hands-on training, farmer-to-farmer learning, and the adaptation of climate-resilient technologies suited to semi-arid regions.
Agroforestry Demonstration Unit
DDS KVK has established a 6-acre Agroforestry Demonstration Unit on its campus, showcasing a successful model of man-made forest ecosystem development under resource-constrained conditions. Developed on rocky land with shallow soils (0–30 cm), the unit integrates soil and water conservation structures—such as contour bunds, check walls, check dams, and a terminal reservoir—with biological interventions.
The unit supports over 100 plant species, including timber, fruit, medicinal, nitrogen-fixing, and flowering species. Key species include Gliricidia, amla, teak, neem, karanj, mahua, red sandal, citrus, and eucalyptus. This demonstration serves as a live laboratory for farmers and extension personnel, promoting sustainable land management, groundwater recharge, and climate resilience.
