Kheti Bachao Abhiyan Empowers Farmers with Climate-Resilient Agricultural Practices across Sangareddy District

Climate change and unpredictable weather patterns continue to pose significant challenges to agricultural production, making timely awareness and scientific advisories essential for ensuring sustainable farming. With this objective, DDS- Krishi Vigyan Kendra successfully organized the Kheti Bachao Abhiyan from 1 to 30 June 2026, covering 30 villages across 8 mandals of Sangareddy district.

To ensure effective implementation and wider outreach, three multidisciplinary teams of KVK scientists were constituted to conduct village-level meetings, farmer awareness programmes, technical interactions, and field-based advisory services throughout the campaign. The campaign was implemented in close coordination with the Department of Agriculture, whose officials at the mandal and village levels played a vital role in mobilizing farmers and facilitating the dissemination of scientific recommendations.

A key objective of the campaign was to create awareness about the El Niño phenomenon and its potential impact on rainfall patterns, water availability, and crop production. Scientists explained how climate variability could influence agricultural operations and emphasized the importance of timely crop planning, selection of suitable crops and varieties, and adoption of appropriate contingency measures to reduce production risks associated with erratic rainfall and prolonged dry spells.

The campaign also focused on promoting climate-resilient agricultural practices that help farmers cope with moisture stress and changing weather conditions. Special emphasis was given to in-situ soil moisture conservation and efficient water management techniques, including mulching with crop residues, ridge and furrow cultivation, farm ponds, and rainwater harvesting. Farmers were encouraged to adopt these practices to improve rainwater infiltration, reduce evaporation and runoff, conserve soil moisture, and enhance crop resilience during dry periods.

Throughout the month-long campaign, approximately 4,500 farmers actively participated in awareness programmes and technical interactions. The coordinated efforts of the three scientist teams enabled extensive outreach and strengthened direct engagement between KVK scientists and farming communities, allowing farmers to receive location-specific technical guidance based on their field conditions.

The campaign also served as a valuable platform for addressing farmers' queries on crop planning, water conservation, soil health management, and climate adaptation strategies. Interactive discussions and field visits helped farmers better understand the practical application of climate-smart agricultural technologies and encouraged them to adopt scientific recommendations for improving farm productivity under changing climatic conditions.

The Kheti Bachao Abhiyan successfully enhanced farmers awareness of climate variability and strengthened their preparedness to face weather-related challenges. By promoting sustainable soil and water conservation practices, efficient resource management, and climate-resilient farming technologies, the campaign contributed towards building more resilient agricultural systems and improving the livelihoods of farming communities across Sangareddy district.

Through such proactive initiatives, DDS-KVK continues to empower farmers with timely scientific knowledge and practical solutions, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable agriculture, climate resilience, and enhanced farm productivity.
