Empowering SC Farmers through SCSP Projects: A Transformative Initiative by DDS KVK

DDS Krishi Vigyan Kendra (DDS KVK), Zaheerabad, is making significant strides in supporting and empowering Scheduled Caste (SC) farmers through various initiatives under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP). The primary aim of these projects is to enhance agricultural productivity, improve livelihoods, and promote sustainable farming practices among SC farmers in the Sangareddy District of Telangana.

Comprehensive Support for SC Farmers

Under the SCSP projects, DDS KVK has been implementing a well-rounded support system addressing various aspects of agriculture, livestock management and entrepreneurship development. By building the capacity of SC farmers specially the women farmers supporting them with essential inputs, high-quality seeds, innovative organic solutions, and livestock, DDS KVK is contributing towards building resilient farming systems for marginalized communities.

Supporting with Agricultural Inputs

To empower the farmers, various agricultural inputs have been distributed across 11 villages in the district. These inputs include essential materials, bio-fertilizers, organic pesticides, seeds, and livestock, which are crucial for enhancing productivity, ensuring sustainable agriculture and ensuring nutritional security.

The inputs provided include tarpaulin covers for protecting harvested produce, grain storage bags for safe storage, and charging spraying pumps for efficient spraying of pesticides and fertilizers. Additionally, neem oil and neem cake were distributed as natural insecticides and soil fertility enhancers, promoting organic farming practices.

Various bio-fertilizers and growth promoters, such as Panchagavya, Solid Jeevamrutam, and NPK Consortium, were provided to enhance soil fertility and plant health. Biological control agents like Mycorrhiza, Bacillus, Trichoderma Viride, Verticillium, Beauveria, and Metarhizium were distributed to assist in natural pest control and disease management. Sticky traps were also supplied to encourage eco-friendly pest management practices.

Enhancing Crop Diversity through improved Seed

Ensuring access to quality seeds is crucial for improving agricultural productivity. DDS KVK supported SC farmers with seeds to enhance crop diversity and nutritional security.

Farmers received seeds of important crops like Red Gram, Bengal Gram, Sorghum, Onion Bulbs, and various vegetable seedlings. Additionally, sugarcane seedlings were distributed to encourage commercial crop cultivation. This comprehensive approach aimed at diversifying crops contributes to food security and increased income for farmers.

Promoting Livestock-Based Livelihoods

Recognizing the importance of livestock farming in improving livelihoods, DDS KVK provided resources and animals to the SC farmers. Charging sprayers and vermicompost beds were distributed to promote organic farming practices.

Livestock distribution included one month old chicks and goats, which serve as an additional income source for the farmers. Promoting poultry and goat farming contributes significantly to the economic resilience of SC households.

The efforts of DDS KVK under the SCSP projects have been well-received by the farming community. The distribution of quality inputs, seeds, and livestock has:
