Building Sustainable Livestock Enterprises: Animal Husbandry Training at DDS KVK

A skill training program on Animal Husbandry and Management Practices was conducted by DDS - Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Medak-1 (Sangareddy District) on 11th & 12th September 2024 at the DDS KVK, with 38 rural youth participating.

Dr. C. Vara Prasad, Senior Scientist and Head, provided an insightful overview of the importance of skill training in dairy and poultry farming as sustainable and profitable enterprises for rural youth. Dr. Kailash Madne, SMS Animal Husbandry, highlighted essential management practices for cattle, goats, and backyard poultry, focusing on key areas such as health care, disease prevention, vaccination, and feeding practices.

The course coordinator Dr. Kailash Madne presented on hatchery management and brooding of chicks, offering practical guidance to improve poultry productivity at DDS KVK hatchery unit. The program also featured hands-on training, including goat deworming techniques, and a demonstration of artificial insemination in Deoni cattle, enriching participants' understanding of modern livestock management.
